Atalanta’s injury crisis has taken another turn for the worse following their match against Udinese. Despite securing a 2-1 victory, the Bergamo-based club saw three key players forced off the pitch due to various injuries.
Sky Sport Italia report how the troubles began before kickoff when manager Gian Piero Gasperini learned that Charles De Ketelaere and Sead Kolasinac would be unavailable for the match. However, the situation deteriorated further during the game as Berat Djimsiti, Davide Zappacosta, and Nicolò Zaniolo all succumbed to injuries.
Zappacosta was the first to leave the field, suffering from a muscular issue in his left calf. His replacement, Raoul Bellanova, proved to be a capable substitute, contributing to the own goal by Touré that ultimately decided the match in Atalanta’s favor.
Djimsiti was next to exit, forced off due to a sprained right ankle. The defensive stalwart’s departure further complicated Gasperini’s tactical plans for the remainder of the match.
The final blow came late in the game when Zaniolo, who had come on as a substitute for Retegui, had to be withdrawn in the 86th minute due to a calf problem. This was particularly disappointing as Zaniolo had only recently returned to action.
Despite these setbacks, Atalanta managed to overturn Udinese’s lead, with Mario Pasalic equalizing before Touré’s own goal sealed the win. The victory keeps Atalanta in the hunt for top spots in Serie A, but the mounting injury list will be a significant concern for Gasperini as he looks to maintain the team’s momentum in both domestic and European competitions.
