Como’s president Mirwan Suwarso has expressed full confidence in manager Cesc Fabregas despite the team’s mixed start to the season. Speaking at the Social Football Summit, Suwarso praised the team’s performance and potential while acknowledging some unlucky results.
“We’re doing very well, they’re showing what they can do and what they can become,” Suwarso stated. “Sometimes we’ve been a bit unlucky, the results could have gone differently, but we fully support what Fabregas is building, we believe in him 100%. And we can’t wait to see what this season holds for us.”
Discussing Como’s growing global appeal, Suwarso highlighted the city’s attractiveness to celebrities and the club’s playing style under Fabregas as key factors. He emphasized the club’s efforts to capitalize on Lake Como’s allure, stating, “We’re building an ecosystem that can gather new fans, new interests in football and beyond.”
Suwarso reiterated the club’s long-term commitment to Fabregas: “We’ve believed in him from the start, even before he became our coach. He has outlined the future architecture of this club, how we wanted to build it, the development, the style, the type of players he wanted. We’re not worried, results are temporary but the important thing is the long-term project.”
The president also touched on the club’s objectives, emphasizing sustainable growth and Serie A consolidation rather than specific targets. “For us, the most important thing is that Como continues to develop, that it plays as Cesc wants. It will be important to continue to stay in Serie A and consolidate,” he explained.
Suwarso praised the club’s investment in young talent, citing players like Nico Paz, Perrone, and Fadera. He also highlighted the positive atmosphere created by Fabregas, mentioning experienced players like Sergi Roberto and Pepe Reina who are enjoying their time at Como.
When asked about the upcoming match against Fiorentina, Suwarso humorously replied, “I expect the game to last 90 minutes, that there will be two halves, eleven players for each team. For the rest, I have no idea.”
