Corriere dello Sport: Deal done for Mats Hummels to Bologna

Start

Bologna and Mats Hummels are edging closer to a deal, with daily video calls taking place between the club’s management and the German defender’s entourage. The negotiations have progressed significantly, and an agreement is reportedly close to being finalized.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via TuttoBolognaWeb) the  proposed contract for Hummels is said to be slightly under €3 million per year, with specifics pointing to €2.5 million plus easily achievable bonuses. Additionally, there’s an option for a second year included in the deal. This level of detail in the negotiations suggests that both parties are serious about making the transfer happen.

Hummels appears to be fully committed to joining Bologna and embracing the Serie A challenge. The club’s directors would be the first to express surprise if there were any last-minute changes in the player’s stance. The former Borussia Dortmund star has made it clear that his chapter in German football has concluded, having turned down approaches from several Bundesliga clubs in recent weeks.

The 35-year-old defender’s desire to experience Italian football has been a crucial factor in these negotiations. He has reportedly informed German clubs that Dortmund was his final team in Germany, effectively ruling out a return to the Bundesliga.

This potential signing represents a significant coup for Bologna. Hummels brings a wealth of experience, having played at the highest levels of club and international football. His addition could substantially bolster Bologna’s defensive lineup and provide valuable leadership on and off the pitch.
