De Zerbi: ‘I can’t take Bologna job after Sinisa’

Former Shakhtar Donetsk coach Roberto De Zerbi stopped talks with Bologna to take over as coach out of respect for Sinisa Mihajlovic. The Serbian coach has been sacked by the Rossoblù after a winless start to the season, while he is undergoing treatment for leukemia, the second time he is battling the condition in three years.

De Zerbi was in negotiations to take over the now vacant role and was thought to be the clubs first option, however he has since decided to abandon talks out of respect for Mihajlovic.

Arianna Mihajlovic confirmed the reports by sharing a post on Instagram which read: “Two great men, I hope youths will learn from these two giants.”

It included a picture of the two men with a quote from De Zerbi, stating: ‘I’d like, but I can’t do it after Sinisa. Money can’t buy everything.’

Thiago Motta is now expected to be appointed as the new Bologna coach in the coming days.
