Michele Di Gregorio gave his first Juventus press conference, marking a significant step in his career as he transitions from Monza to the prestigious club. The 26-year-old goalkeeper, who was trained at Inter, made the move for a fee of €20 million , including bonuses. In his introductory press conference, Di Gregorio expressed gratitude towards Monza and its president, Adriano Galliani, who is celebrating his 80th birthday.
Reflecting on his first impressions at Juventus, Di Gregorio shared, “The sensations are those of the first day. Every day feels like the first day. Everything is beautiful. As I mentioned that day, the facilities… In these days I have also had the chance to try them, see them firsthand. Everything is truly wonderful.”
Di Gregorio’s decision to join Juventus was resolute. He stated, “Since the end of the season, I spoke with director Giuntoli and I didn’t think about any other solution, no other team. I gave my word. That I have kept.” This commitment highlights his dedication to the club.
When discussing his ambitions, Di Gregorio noted, “My ambition is to leave something behind, like the great goalkeepers have done. I perhaps remember a bit of Peruzzi. Time will tell. The goal is to do my best, continue to grow, improve, and achieve satisfaction.” He emphasized that leaving a mark at Juventus is a priority, alongside aspirations for national team selection.
Addressing the pressure that comes with playing for a club of Juventus’ stature, he acknowledged, “Knowing that I am coming here should give you the awareness that there will be pressures. It’s the beautiful part of this sport, this world. It drives me every day to improve, to try to be the best I can be.”
Di Gregorio also mentioned his admiration for legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, stating, “I haven’t spoken with him. I heard the words he said about me. Inevitably, they please me and make me proud that he thinks of me that way. He is the greatest in history.” Buffon has been a significant influence on many aspiring goalkeepers, including Di Gregorio.
When asked about his idols, he reflected, “Not just one. Growing up during the 2006 World Cup, Buffon was certainly an influence. But there are many other goalkeepers. Handanovic also for his style. I don’t have just one in mind.”
