Ivan Juric is expected to make significant changes to his Roma lineup for their Europa League match against Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. Following a disappointing defeat last weekend and with an important Serie A fixture against Bologna looming on Sunday, the Roma manager is looking to rotate his squad.
Top scorer Artem Dovbyk is likely to be rested, with Eldor Shomurodov getting a chance to lead the attack. On the left wing, Stephan El Shaarawy could replace Nicola Zalewski. In midfield, Bryan Cristante and promising youngster Niccolo Pisilli may start in place of Manu Kone and Enzo Le Fee.
Defensively, Mario Hermoso’s recent injury could pave the way for Mats Hummels to make his first start for Roma. The team will also be without Alexis Saelemaekers, who remains sidelined with an ankle issue.
Union SG, meanwhile, have brought in former Everton forward Kevin Mirallas as a striker coach to boost their attacking prowess. Mirallas will be working closely with Madagascar international Loic Lapoussin, who has recently returned to the first team after a disciplinary exile.
Lapoussin is expected to start in support of strikers Franjo Ivanovic and Kevin Rodriguez. David Promise, who scored twice in a recent cup match against Eupen, provides another attacking option for the Belgian side.
Union SG will be without Alessio Castro-Montes and Sofiane Boufal due to injuries. However, English defender Ross Sykes, who recently signed a contract extension, has recovered from a foot injury and is available for selection.
Union SG: Moris; Sykes, Burgess, Mac Allister; Niang, Amani, Sadiki, Vanhoutte, Lapoussin; Rodriguez, Ivanovic
Roma: Svilar; Mancini, Hummels, Angelino; Abdulhamid, Paredes, Cristante, El Shaarawy; Pisilli, Baldanzi; Shomurodov
