France head coach Didier Deschamps addressed the media ahead of their crucial match against Italy. The press conference, held at San Siro in Milan, covered various topics including the team’s recent performance, player fatigue, and the significance of the France-Italy fixture.

Deschamps began by addressing France’s recent goalless draw: “It’s frustrating not to score after a game like that, after creating so much, but it’s happened to us before. We didn’t score, but we had many opportunities to do so.”

When asked about maintaining motivation amid player fatigue, Deschamps acknowledged the challenge: “Many players are coming off weeks where they play three matches, there’s both physical and mental fatigue. However, the motivation is always there, even if sometimes it’s difficult.”

Addressing questions about his position, Deschamps remained confident: “We’re second in the FIFA rankings, we’ve played a Nations League with many young players with less experience, it’s normal that this affects the results, but we’re still alive, we reached the semi-finals at the Euros. Italy and France have qualified, they’re currently in first position, we know what we need to do. Tomorrow there will be changes because I need to see the players.”

On the growth of Khephren Thuram, Deschamps commented: “He’s already been called up with us, there are many players in midfield. This year he started the season gradually, now he has a more important role, he’s one of those young players with quality. I hope he continues to do what he’s doing now and maintains it over time.”

Regarding Kalulu, Deschamps noted: “He did very well in Milan’s Scudetto year, he had physical problems, now he’s recovered better. We follow him, like all players, there’s also significant competition in defense.”

Deschamps also reflected on his connection to Italy: “I always enjoy returning to Italy, I’m happy where I am, both as a coach and as a player I spent many years in Italy and they were beautiful years.”

When asked if the match against Italy is just like any other, Deschamps emphasized its significance: “I assure you that as a player it was a special match.”

Finally, on Pogba’s situation, Deschamps stated: “I saw that he reached an agreement with Juventus, I don’t know what he will choose to do, he’s preparing individually.”
