Santiago Gimenez, AC Milan’s new star striker, has been officially presented at Casa Milan following his €35 million transfer from Feyenoord. The 23-year-old Mexican forward joins the Rossoneri as part of their impressive winter transfer campaign, which also saw the arrivals of Joao Felix, Kyle Walker, Warren Bondo, and Riccardo Sottil.
Gimenez, who has already scored 16 goals in 19 official matches this season, including 5 in the Champions League, expressed his excitement about joining the Italian giants. “One of my main dreams as a child was to play for this team, and now I’ve made it come true. Now I hope to leave my mark on this great club,” he stated.
When asked about his availability for the upcoming Coppa Italia match against Roma, Gimenez assured, “I had a small injury in the last match with Feyenoord, but now I’m very ready to play.”
The striker revealed that Milan had been following him since the previous transfer window, but he remained focused on his game. “I’m a man of faith, I try to leave everything in God’s hands, and my family has assisted me in this,” he explained.
Gimenez drew inspiration from AC Milan legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, stating, “A player I follow a lot, also for his history, is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. I feel the responsibility of being a Milan player. Passion and power are my strengths, then I have to refine some details on various aspects, but I will work to the maximum to be at the top.”
The Mexican international will wear the iconic number 7 shirt, previously worn by Andriy Shevchenko. “My number is the same as Shevchenko’s, and in the Bible, it’s the one that represents perfection,” Gimenez noted.
Addressing the upcoming Champions League playoff against his former club Feyenoord, Gimenez said, “It will be a beautiful moment to return to Rotterdam, it will be a special encounter. It was like a family, and it will be a particular moment.”
Gimenez also acknowledged the support from Mexican fans, saying, “I feel the great responsibility of representing my people and my country in this great club. I won’t be alone during my time at Milan because I have a united country behind me.”
When asked if he could become better than Mexican legend Hugo Sanchez, Gimenez humbly responded, “I’m not here to make comparisons with other players, but to work hard, follow my path, and leave my mark on this adventure at Milan.”
The new Milan striker concluded by emphasizing his alignment with the club’s ethos: “For me, Milan is a tailor-made suit. There’s a hunger for victory, it has an important spirit with which I identify. I too have this fiery spirit, and I will give my all to leave a mark.”
