Immobile: ‘Tomorrow We Face one of the Strongest Teams in the World’

Lazio striker Ciro Immobile spoke about the upcoming Champions League match against Bayern Munich: “We face one of the strongest teams in the world.” The Biancocelesti have struggled for form of late, but Immobile says he and his teammates are enthusiastic about the tie: “We will have to act as a team”:

After passing Group E with a second-place finish, Lazio is ready to return to the Champions League stage. Bayern Munich enters the Olimpico Stadium with the defeat against Bayer Leverkusen weighing on their shoulders. Ahead of the press conference, Ciro Immobile spoke about the match against Bayern Munich to Sky Sport: “Is facing this Bayern less of an impossible mission than a few months ago? It’s certainly a difficult mission but stimulating: it’s nice to face such strong teams. We will give our best to honor the competition, the opponent, and for the people who will be present tomorrow at the Olimpico.”

The Lazio captain added, “We are approaching this Champions League as a reward for the league we had last year. In the group stage, we faced strong teams but managed to qualify. Tomorrow we face one of the strongest teams in the world, and we will have to do something extraordinary; we will have to act as a team.”

He concluded, “Personal moment? I’ve worked hard to get rid of the negative period. Continuity and work are daily bread for me. It’s important that I can help the team.”

Immobile then spoke at a press conference: “We are doing well, we are enthusiastic. We must be attentive to every detail to put them in difficulty. It will be a tough game for us, but we are not anxious. The victory against Cagliari helped; we have regained light after tough moments. The match three years ago with Bayern is the most important aspect: we played it poorly, so we can learn from mistakes to show that we have grown.”

The Biancoceleste striker also reflected on the challenge with Bayern: “I happened to watch Augsburg-Bayern Munich three years ago; I thought we could make it, then on the field, I saw another team. Bayern, like other top clubs, transform with the Champions League anthem.”

Immobile then talked about the National Team and the Euro 2024 goal: “I haven’t heard from Spalletti since the penultimate call-up. The Euros are a goal. With a good season, you reach the Champions League, with high performance with the club, you get to the National Team; I’ve always thought like that.”

The Lazio captain also focused on some of his teammates: “We worked a lot last week on understanding how to be more dangerous in attack; we concede many goals from regained possession. We are all waiting for Zaccagni’s return; we know how important he is to us. Isaksen is growing.”
