Juventus hit with double with Injury blow as Gonzalez and Bremer sidelined

Start

Juventus received devastating news following their Champions League match against RB Leipzig. The club have confirmed that defender Gleison Bremer and winger Nicolas Gonzalez both sustained injuries during the game, with Bremer’s situation particularly concerning.

Bremer, who has been a crucial part of Juventus’ defense this season, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee. The Brazilian center-back will undergo surgery in the coming days, which typically requires a recovery period of 6 to 8 months. This means Bremer is likely to miss the remainder of the season, with a potential return not expected until May or June 2025. The defender’s best hope is to be fit for the Club World Cup scheduled from June 15 to July 13.

The injury occurred just minutes into the match against Leipzig, with Bremer unable to continue after an awkward twist of his knee while attempting to stop an opponent’s run. The severity of the injury was immediately apparent, as the player had to be assisted off the field by medical staff.

Nicolas Gonzalez, on the other hand, sustained a less severe injury. The Argentine winger has been diagnosed with a low-grade injury to the rectus femoris of his right thigh. While not as serious as Bremer’s injury, Gonzalez is still expected to be out of action for approximately 20-25 days. This means he will miss Argentina’s upcoming international fixtures in October, as well as Juventus’ home matches against Cagliari and Lazio in Serie A, and Stuttgart in the Champions League. The club is hopeful that Gonzalez will be available for the crucial match against Inter on October 27.

These injuries come as a significant setback for Juventus, who have had a strong start to their season. Bremer, in particular, has been instrumental in the team’s defensive solidity, helping maintain six consecutive clean sheets in Serie A. His absence will undoubtedly be felt as the team navigates through a busy schedule in both domestic and European competitions.

Manager Thiago Motta expressed his concern about the injuries in the post-match interview, emphasizing the importance of both players to the team.
