Juventus to offer Angel Di Maria contract extension

Juventus will reportedly offer a contract extension to Argentine winger Angel Di Maria following his impressive performance in the World Cup final. ‘Il Fideo’ agreed a one-year contract with the Bianconeri until June 2023 but has spent part of the season out with injury, only returning to full fitness before the start of the finals in Qatar.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Juventus will push the 34-year-old to agree to another year-long contract, having initially wanted him to sign a two-year deal when he arrived in summer so that they could also take advantage of the tax benefits of the Growth Decree.

Di Maria reportedly agreed to a one year deal because he wants to return to his home town team Rosario Central where he began his career, but the player has suggested he may be open to staying in Turin, previously saying: “Stay more than one season? You never know, I’ll think about it later.”

Gazzetta suggest Juve director Federico Cherubini has made an appointment to speak with the players agent Lisandro Pirosanto after the World Cup with the idea of offering another one year deal. The extension would allow the Bianconeri more time to find a suitable replacement, rather than forcing them onto the transfer market next summer.
