Mari: ‘I saw a person die in front of me’

Monza defender Pablo Mari is set to undergo surgery today after being stabbed in an attack at a supermarket in Milan: ‘I was lucky, I saw one person die in front of me.’ The Spanish centre-back was among six people attacked at a supermarket in Milanofiori di Assago mall which saw one person tragically lose their life.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Monza CEO Adriano Galliani and coach Raffaele Palladino visited Mari in hospital ahead of his surgery. Speaking to Gazzetta offered a brief account of what happened:

I was lucky because I saw a person die in front of me, I was pushing my trolley with my child in the seat. I felt tremendous pain in my back, and then that man stabbed another guy in the throat.”

Two of the five people attacked are said to be in critical condition. Massimo Tarantino, a former Serie A defender for Napoli, Inter and Bologna, disarmed the attacker.
