Former Roma director Walter Sabatini shared his insights on Napoli’s potential transfer moves, particularly regarding the departure of Kvaratskhelia and possible replacements. Speaking to Radio Marte, Sabatini offered his perspective on the club’s strategy and potential targets.
Sabatini believes that selling Kvaratskhelia is a wise decision for Napoli, especially if a significant offer is on the table. He stated, “Selling Kvaratskhelia is the wisest and most advisable choice for Napoli. In the face of an important offer, a club cannot give up such a capital gain, especially for self-sufficient companies that cannot rely on recapitalizations and capital increases.”
The experienced director praised Napoli’s president, De Laurentiis, for maintaining financial stability without compromising sporting competitiveness. “De Laurentiis has kept the accounts in order for twenty years without losing sports competitiveness, and this is the path to follow,” Sabatini remarked.
While acknowledging the disappointment of losing a strong player like Kvaratskhelia, Sabatini sees the potential benefits of the transfer. He explained, “From this operation, at least 40-50% will remain to invest in the market. Today, we cannot say if and how much Napoli will lose in competitiveness for the Scudetto by selling the Georgian; much depends on who will replace him.”
Regarding potential replacements, Sabatini expressed reservations about Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho. “I don’t like to talk about possible replacements for the Georgian that the press is discussing. However, I can say that Garnacho is strong but inconsistent, without a precise role. He doesn’t convince me much,” he commented.
On the other hand, Sabatini spoke highly of Federico Chiesa, suggesting he could thrive under Antonio Conte’s management at Napoli. “Chiesa can do well with Conte because Federico is a great player. I’m amazed that he can’t find space in the Premier League. He’s fast, physically resistant, and has a great attitude towards proposition and sacrifice,” Sabatini enthused.
The former director concluded by expressing his hope for Napoli’s continued success, stating, “I say more, Napoli must not only continue to fight for the Scudetto, but I hope they win it. They would deserve it for the choices De Laurentiis made after the splendid Scudetto and also after the past negative season, bringing in Conte and building a strong team.”
