Bologna Set Huge Price Tag On Santiago Castro As Argentinian Attracts Premier League Interest
Santiago Castro could be on his way out of Bologna as rumors over a move away begin to circulate.
Bologna have set a huge price tag on star striker Santiago Castro in a bid to ward off heavy interest from the Premier League.
Bologna Set Huge Price Tag On Santiago Castro
Serie A high-flyers Bologna have put their foot down in any talks around Santiago Castro, having priced the Argentine at €35 million.
The 21-year-old joined Bologna for €13.2m in January 2024 after an impressive spell with his boyhood club Velez Sarsfield and went on to make eight appearances in the 2023/24 campaign.
Castro followed this up with a far more consistent showing in the 2024/25 season, contributing to 13 goals in 36 Serie A appearances (8G + 5A).
Vinzenco Italiano has shown huge faith in the young Argentine and the Bologna manager has been rewarded by Castro’s performances in Serie A so far, contributing to five goals in seven appearances this season (4G + 1A).
Castro’s performances have been symbolic of the Rossoblu’s overall display this season, as Bologna are one of the most in-form teams in Serie A.
After picking up 24-points from 12 matches in Serie A, Bologna sit fifth in the table and are just three-points behind AS Roma who sit top of Italy’s first division.
Italiano’s side have secured some major victories this season, beating Como 1907 and current champions Napoli, cementing their place as a top-four threat.
However, this strong performance in Serie A has failed to appear in Bologna’s Europa League campaign, as the Rossoblu have earned five-points from four matches.
Bologna sit 24th in the Europa League table, which is the final spot to progress into the next round and Castro’s form in the European competition has been rather underwhelming.
The Argentine is yet to register a goal contribution in three Europa League starts and Bologna’s only win came after Castro was dropped to the bench against FCSB on October 23rd.
Despite this lackluster performance on the European stage, Castro is still a reported target for multiple sides around Europe and the Argentine could be on his way to the Premier League in 2026.
Premier League Sides Target Santiago Castro
Castro’s deal in Italy does not expire until June 2028, but Bologna have revealed that their star talisman can leave next-year if an interested party can match their €35m valuation.
One side that are reportedly preparing a January move for Castro is Everton, as David Moyes looks to replace Beto, and Thierno Barry continues to struggle in England.
Barry is yet to score in 14 appearances across all competitions, while Beto has only found the back of the net twice – highlighting a clear issue for the Toffees.
Everton have scored 13 goals in 12 Premier League matches, which is a tally that has concerned supporters as only Leeds (11) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (7) have been less prolific.
Spending €35m on a striker could be a difficult request for Moyes to make to the Everton board, as the Toffees forked-out €30m on Barry during the recent summer transfer window.
If the Toffee’s decide against the idea of signing Castro next-year, then another Premier League side could be in the running to sign the Argentine.
Crystal Palace are reportedly close to losing another star player, as Jean-Philippe Mateta has attracted interest from Roma after the Frenchman revealed his wishes to play in Serie A during his career.
Mateta scored 14 goals in the Premier League last season and the French international has brought this form into the 2025/26 campaign, scoring six-goals in 12 league appearances.
If the 28-year-old decides to leave Selhurst Park in 2026 then Oliver Glasner will be on the hunt for a new talisman and the Eagles are said to be huge admirers of Castro.
