Roma midfielder Manu Kone is set to miss the Giallorossi’s upcoming Serie A clash against Napoli after suffering an ankle injury in the Europa League.

Roma Secure Crucial Europa League Win

Gian Piero Gasperini saw his side move up to 15th in the Europa League table after a narrow 2-1 victory over Midtjylland at Stadio Olimpico.

The Giallorossi made a flying start to the match and were ahead after just seven-minutes, as Neil El Ayanoui provided the finishing touch to a superb delivery from Zeki Celik.

Neither side were at their best in the attacking areas of the pitch and supporters had to wait until the 83rd minute to see the next goal – with Stephan El Shaarawy finishing off a swift counter attack.

Midtjylland looked to be staging a monumental comeback in the Italian capital, as Paulinho pulled one back for the visitors just three-minutes after Roma’s second.

Gasperini’s men managed to hold on for the remaining stages of the match, meaning Roma have now won four consecutive matches across all competitions.

This victory was not only vital for Roma’s Europa League ambitions, but a defeat would have seen the Italian side lose three consecutive home matches in European competition for the first time in history.

Roma’s fierce rivals Lazio have taken the headlines in Rome during the latter stages of November after the Mayor of Rome granted the Laziali’s 99-year requestbut this victory will bring the shine back on the Giallorossi.

However beating Midtjylland came with a price, as Manu Kone was forced off after 27 minutes with an ankle injury and is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Manu Kone To Miss Napoli Clash

The French midfielder took a knock to the ankle during the opening 10-minute on November 27th and Kone attempted to play on before coming off 17 minutes later.

Immediate reports from the match have revealed that Kone was seen with heavy icing around the ankle and left the stadium with a visible limp.

The 24-year-old has proved to be a pivotal player under Gian Piero Gasperini, starting in every Serie A match this season and guiding Roma to the top of Italy’s top-flight.

However, Gasperini may not be able to call-upon his star man for Roma’s upcoming Serie A clash, as the current table-toppers face the current champions, Napoli, on November 30th.

The Partenopei were also victorious in Europe during their latest outing, securing a 2-0 win over Qarabag as Scott McTominay continued his strong run of form with another goal.

Performing at this level has seen McTominay be linked with a Premier League return and Gasperini would have been looking to use Kone to stop the Scottish international from scoring at Stadio Olimpico.

An exact diagnosis is yet to be confirmed by the Roma medical staff, however, the initial reports suggest that Kone will not be available on November 30th.
