OFFICIAL: Jan-Carlo Simic Joins Anderlecht from AC Milan

Start

AC Milan have officially announced the transfer of promising young defender Jan-Carlo Simic to Belgian club Anderlecht in a surprising move. The 19-year-old Serbian talent has signed a five-year contract with his new team, marking the end of his brief but impactful tenure with the Italian giants.

Simic joined AC Milan’s academy from Stuttgart in 2022 and quickly established himself as one of the most promising defensive prospects in Italian football. His potential was evident as he captained Milan’s Primavera side in the UEFA Youth League and made his senior debut under former manager Stefano Pioli in December 2023.

The young defender’s debut was particularly memorable, as he scored a goal in his first Serie A appearance during Milan’s 3-0 victory over Monza. This performance, along with his regular inclusion in the first-team squad, seemed to indicate a bright future for Simic at the San Siro.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, Milan have opted to sell the talented center-back to Anderlecht. The transfer is reported to be worth €3 million, with Milan retaining a 20% sell-on clause for any future transfer.

Anderlecht confirmed the signing via their official website, saying:

“19 years old, a Serbian youth international and a big talent from AC Milan: Jan-Carlo Simić is RSC Anderlecht’s first summer transfer. The young central defender signed a contract until 2029 at purple and white.”

The player said of the move:

“I am very proud to sign with such a prestigious club as Anderlecht. Everyone knows Anderlecht and the world-class players who started their careers here. So it seems like the perfect step for me to continue to grow and learn from the more experienced players. I look forward to celebrating victories with my teammates and the fans.”

This transfer may have implications for Milan’s other defensive options, potentially indicating that the club is not planning to negotiate the departure of Malick Thiaw, who has been linked with interest from Newcastle United.
