Fiorentina manager Raffaele Palladino shared his thoughts following his team’s goalless draw against Empoli in the Derby dell’Arno. Speaking to Sky Sport after the match, Palladino reflected on the performance and highlighted the importance of team mentality.
The coach began by expressing his expectations for the match: “I expected something more. We lacked a bit of clarity and unpredictability. However, the team gave everything and put in a great performance in the non-possession phase. We didn’t concede a shot on target, we defended very well and with great spirit. We must be ambitious and create a winning mentality for these matches.”
Palladino praised his players’ response despite their short time working together: “I’m getting great responses from these guys even though we’ve only been together for a short time. We’re finding a team solidity.”
Addressing the topic of formations, Palladino emphasized the importance of mentality over specific tactical setups: “What’s important is the team’s mentality. Today we experimented with a 4-2-3-1, but we can also play with three at the back. We’re growing and we’re also reaching a team maturity.”
The Fiorentina boss also commented on Moise Kean’s performance and versatility: “Moise has shown that he can play both as a striker in a three-man attack and alone. We wanted him strongly and he’s growing match after match. Physically, he’s a beast, and mentally, he’s a leader. However, all the attackers were good today. I always have to thank them, they are the first defenders.”
