Former AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli is on the verge of becoming the new head coach of Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. The club have targeted Pioli to replace Luis Castro, who has been officially dismissed. Pioli reportedly has a preliminary agreement in place with Al-Nassr.
La Gazzetta dello Sport confirm Today could be a crucial day, as Pioli’s representatives are scheduled to meet with AC Milan officials in Milan to discuss terminating his current contract, which runs until June. Milan had relieved Pioli of his duties at the end of May following the conclusion of the Serie A season.
The plan is for Pioli to be released from his Milan contract in order to sign a two-year deal with Al-Nassr, with an option for a third year. The salary offered by the Saudi club is significantly higher than the €4 million Pioli earned at Milan. While Arab sources suggest a figure of €6-7 million, it’s believed the actual offer is closer to €10 million per season plus bonuses.
If all pieces fall into place, Pioli could depart for Saudi Arabia as early as tomorrow.
This potential move would allow Pioli to work with another high-profile Portuguese player after coaching Rafael Leao at Milan – none other than Cristiano Ronaldo. Interestingly, Pioli was close to joining Al-Ittihad, Karim Benzema’s club, earlier this summer, but negotiations fell through at the last moment.
For AC Milan, Pioli’s departure to Saudi Arabia would provide financial relief, as they would no longer be responsible for his salary. The club is hopeful that today’s meeting will lead to a mutually beneficial resolution, paving the way for Pioli’s new adventure in the Middle East.
