Leandro Paredes is contemplating a return to Boca Juniors as he seeks to reconnect with the club that launched his career. Calciomercato report that the Argentine midfielder, currently with AS Roma, is eager to head back to Argentina, especially as his contract with the Giallorossi is set to expire in June. With a salary of 4.5 million euros per season and no ongoing discussions for a contract renewal, a January departure is increasingly plausible.
Paredes has struggled to make an impact at Roma, having played only eight matches this season, with just two starts. His performance has not met the expectations set by the club and its fans, leading to concerns about his role in the team. The midfielder has been overshadowed by teammates and has not been able to assert himself as a key player.
The contract Paredes signed includes a clause for automatic extension based on appearances, but given his limited playing time, it seems unlikely he will meet that threshold. Coach Claudio Ranieri will need to decide how to utilize Paredes moving forward as he attempts to regain his place in the lineup.
In recent comments from Argentina, Paredes expressed his interest in returning to Boca Juniors, stating, “It would be great to play in a Club World Cup; the competition is spectacular. I haven’t spoken with Fernando Gago (Boca’s coach), but his arrival is fantastic, and he has a style of play that I love.” His father further fuelled speculation by sharing a photo of Paredes in Boca colours on social media, indicating the family’s support for a potential move.
Last summer, Paredes was close to leaving Roma for a club in Saudi Arabia, but negotiations fell through due to differences between the offer and his expectations. He has since moved on from that possibility but remains focused on eventually returning to Boca Juniors.
