Goalkeeper Ivan Provedel was the hero for Lazio on Tuesday night as he scored with the last action of the game to rescue a dramatic point for the Biancocelesti against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
Head coach Maurizio Sarri spoke with Sky Sport after the match as he discussed his side’s performance, the start to the season and thoughts on Atletico:
On his side rescuing a point: “We looked for the solution. Being behind at the end of the first half with the way the two teams played wasn’t right. There was the risk of being victims of bad luck. The team was deservedly rewarded because the result was unfair. An important point against the favorite in the group. Everyone calls us a team in difficulty but we played against Napoli, Juve and Atletico and we achieved a victory, a draw and a defeat. We played it out equal. The regret is the first two games that complicated things for us.”
On Lazio’s start to the season: “I’m dissatisfied with the first two (matches) that put us in a difficult situation.”
On today’s performance: “We played a good game against a team that was strong in dribbling and counter attacks. We could have been in trouble. We didn’t suffer any counter attacks in the first half, only in the second half due to the result. The numbers of the match are in our favor. Some players still have to grow. At the collective level we can create much more.”
