Szczesny: ‘I have enough money, I prefer to defend the Juventus goal’

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny says he prefers the challenge of defending the Bianconeri goal over Saudi offers: ‘I’ve earned enough in my career’. The 33-year-old was speaking with Polish station TVP Sport, in which he touched on a number of issues, from the many footballers’ who have decided to play in Saudi Arabia to his retirement:

“It is worth having priorities other than the search for money. I prefer fun challenges and defending the Juventus goal is the best challenge I can have. I know that I am and will be a Juventus player; I am linked to this club, which wants me to defend the Juventus goal. As long as Juventus wants me, I will stay here.”

“Europe? I don’t have much to say; now there will be more time to train properly and, for the first time in my career, there will be a little more rest. We have to get used to it and work as hard as possible to achieve success in the competitions we can play in. This club is so used to winning that the day after winning a championship you felt like winning another one. There is frustration that we haven’t been successful lately, but there is also motivation to get back into the title fight and to get back into the European cups.”

“Retirement? I try to enjoy the moment, because I don’t know how long I can play at the highest level. For now I feel good, but I don’t feel ready to play until I’m 40. Like Buffon? No no. I always thought about ending my career while I was still at the top. I wouldn’t want to continue my career just because I have no idea what to do with my life. I know that retirement is near, but I am not sad about it. I am motivated to do as much as I can for the club and for myself.”
