Torino manager Paolo Vanoli addressed the media in a press conference ahead of the match against Monza, coached by Alessandro Nesta. Both teams are looking to return to winning ways after a difficult period.
Vanoli began by discussing the team’s preparation: “The players are doing well. Those who stayed have worked well, though we have the misfortune of having 14 internationals, so there’s little to work on except for the physical aspect. Everyone needs to help, and I’m happy with the performances of the players called up for national duty.”
Regarding the importance of the upcoming match and the mini-cycle the team faces, Vanoli stated: “These are stages. Three points at a time can bring us closer to our dream, and they must come after the lost derby. We need to play with what we lacked against Juventus. We need the desire and determination to achieve the result. It’s a stage that brings us closer to our goal. There are three important points at stake that bring us closer to safety.”
Addressing reports of his post-derby outburst, Vanoli explained: “In recent days, I’ve read a lot about the post-derby outburst. I’m simply a genuine and sincere person. After the match, I told my players things to their face because I think this is the best way to grow and improve. The anger didn’t come from the result or lack of commitment, but from the fact that we didn’t play a derby like Torino should.”
On the team’s defensive improvements and attacking options, Vanoli noted: “Regarding the defensive department, compared to the first matches, we’ve improved. Today, the most important thing to overcome these periods is to put ‘we’ before ‘I’. As for the attack, Adams has worked with us and has returned, Sanabria is charged after scoring for the national team and wants to help the team at all costs.”
Addressing the planned fan protest, where the Curva will leave the stadium empty for 45 minutes, Vanoli commented: “I’ve said many times how important the fans’ support is for us. I told the players that we must focus on the match, without worrying about the atmosphere around us.”
Finally, on his position as manager amid the team’s struggles, Vanoli declared: “Am I on shaky ground? I’m a very humble person. This is too important a challenge for me: I chose Torino, and until the end, I will try in every way to bring the best results together with my players.”
