Inzaghi: ‘We should have converted more of our chances’

Start

Simone Inzaghi believes Inter played an excellent game against Porto but should have converted more of their chances in the first half. The Nerazzurri had the better chances in their 1-0 victory but left it late to win the game, the only goal coming from a fine solo effort from Romelu Lukaku. Speaking with Amazon Prime Italia after the game (via La Gazzetta dello Sport) Inzaghi touched on the positives from the game and the importance of Lukaku finding the net again after returning from a long spell on the sidelines:

“We played an excellent game against a physical and technical opponent with a very good goalkeeper. In the first half we had a couple of great chances that we should have converted, then in the second half we were hit on the counter attack on which Skriniar and Onana did well. Then the sending off and the goal”

“It’s not easy to play games like this, all the players did well including the substitutes, from Brozovic to Gosens. In the first half we had to be quicker in turning the ball over, with speed in the plays we had prepared.

“They were attacking fiercely, we probably had to pick up the pace. But in my opinion we deserved the lead already at half-time.

“Lukaku? We know what he can give us, the injury took him away from us for four months. I’m glad he’s taken that satisfaction away from the game. Dzeko? No problem, after  Lukaku’s goal he was the first to embrace him”.
