Lautaro: ‘We are confident for what’s to come’

Start

Lautaro Martinez says he and his Inter teammates are confident for what’s to come in the Champions League final. The Argentine scored the only goal of the game in the Nerazzuri’s semi-final win against Milan, setting up a final with Real Madrid or Manchester City on June 10. Speaking with Sky Sport Italia, the Inter striker was overjoyed with the result, explaining why his victory in the World Cup earlier this year helped motivate and mature him and why he suffers when he’s not on the pitch:

“Tonight will remain with me for a lifetime,  for the teammates and for all the fans as well. There is a lot of history in here and we dealt with it the way we needed to. We look forward, we are very confident for what is to come.”

You have been the leader of this team: credit also to the World Cup you won?

“Raising that cup is special, I always try to give my best. I have matured so much also thanks to the family and on the field it shows. I have teammates who make me grow every day, for example at the World Cup I learned so much from Messi.”

What did you say to each other with Inzaghi during the match?

“I had gone to tell the coach about Mkhitaryan’s problem, that he wanted to try to stay on the pitch despite the problem so as not to waste a change.”

Do you feel this great responsibility? When Lautaro drops, so does Inter…

“Absolutely yes, in fact I suffer a lot when I don’t play as I would like. Sometimes there is a physical drop that affects so much. With the destroyed ankle I was considering whether to have surgery or not, during the World Cup I suffered so much. Then I came back here and those 10 days of rest in Argentina helped me so much as did the personalized work. Now I am in great shape both mentally and physically.”

Compliments from Cambiasso….

“We have to go to Istanbul and raise the cup. We are one step away, we reached this final by eliminating our eternal rivals and we are there. The same goes for the Coppa Italia: this club deserves to enjoy these finals.”
