Juventus Could Win Group G and Still Face Real Madrid in the Club World Cup Last 16

Start

Juventus’ Club World Cup campaign has so far shown them to be one of the tournament’s more potent sides, but their first real test is fast approaching. Although safe passage through the group stage has been secured, the winners of Group G could be handed an unwanted prize for their efforts.

Juventus Club World Cup Schedule

Juventus have been one of the Club World Cup’s surprise packages so far, winning both of their games against Al Ain and Wydad by a combined aggregate scoreline of 9-1.

Arsenal-linked Kenan Yildiz has shown why he will be the epicentre of Igor Tudor’s Juve side for the forthcoming season, clocking in with three goals so far, including a brace against Wydad.

The Club World Cup has allowed Juve’s attacking unit to shine, but their first real test of the tournament in the shape of Manchester City may reveal some of last season’s defensive frailties.

The Old Lady and City are entirely level on points and goal difference, meaning the third and final match between the two will decide who tops Group E.

The pair will line up in Orlando’s Camping World Stadium on Thursday, June 26, with kick-off slated for 16:00 EST.

Juventus Club World Cup Fixtures and Results

  • Juventus 5 – 0 Al Ain
  • Juventus 4 – 1 Wydad
  • Juventus vs Manchester City (June 26, 16:00 EST)

Juventus Club World Cup Last 16 Opponents and Group G Permutations

Juventus winning Group G would be heralded as a real achievement internally, given they were as long as 10th favorites before the tournament started according to cash out betting sites — well behind fellow group leaders Manchester City.

Even a draw could be enough to see them top the group given they have racked up the most goals scored in all group matches between the teams involved, which could be the criteria used, should the top two finish in a dead heat.

Elsewhere, a victory would also hand them top spot, but what lies ahead could mean finishing runner-up may actually be preferable.

The winners of Group G would be on a collision course with the runners-up in Group H.

Both Real Madrid and RB Salzburg sit level on four points in that group, while Al Hilal sit in third on two points.

Madrid and Salzburg face each other on the final matchday in what could well be Group H’s decider for top spot, meaning Juventus could theoretically win Group G and be handed a last 16 matchup with Real Madrid.
