Sunderland Keeping Tabs On Italy Under 21 Defender Lorenzo Pirola

Start

The latest Sunderland transfer news has revealed the Premier League newcomers are interested in Italy Under 21 captain Lorenzo Pirola.

Adding defensive reinforcements is high on the agenda for Black Cats boss Regis Le Bris. The Frenchman views Pirola as an ideal addition to his roster for the 2025-26 season.

Pirola currently plies his trade in Greece for Olympiacos. The centre-back was part of the Erythroleykoi side who went on to win the league last year.

Sunderland Transfer News

Despite being the 4/11 favorites to suffer relegation with offshore sportsbooks in 2025-26, the latest Sunderland transfer news will give supporters hope that survival can be achieved.

FootItalia sources confirmed that the Mackems are interested in bringing Lorenzo Pirola to the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats board have already given the thumbs up for negotiations to commence.

In fact, contact has already been made with Olimpiacos as Regis Le Bris aims to secure Pirola’s signature. The French head coach has already drawn up a list of defensive targets but the 23-year-old star is his No.1 priority.

Le Bris has already welcomed six new additions through the door this summer. Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi is also strongly linked but Sassuolo’s Armand Lauriente won’t be joining after his deal collapsed at the last minute.

How Much Would Lorenzo Pirola Cost?

According to TransferMarket, Lorenzo Pirola has a value of €6million. However, it’s likely that Olympiacos won’t entertain bids for less than €25m.

Sunderland have the cash to splash but our sources have informed us that a deal for €20m up front with performance-related add-ons is more feasible for the Black Cats.

Pirola is one of the brightest defensive prospects in European soccer. His relatively modest fees make him an extremely attractive option for Le Bris.

Defenders are the priority for the Frenchman with Luke O’Nien and Aji Alese set to miss the opening three games of the season. The same applies to Dennis Cirkin who is nursing a wrist injury.

What Serie A clubs Are Interested In Lorenzo Pirola?

Our exclusive in June revealed that Roma re-entered the race for Italy Under 21 captain Lorenzo Pirola. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are still keen on Pirola but face competition from Sunderland and other Serie A rivals.

Inter are keeping tabs on their former player. So to are Bologna as a potential replacement for Jhon Lucumi. Atalanta are also pursuing the centre-back as they prepare for UCL soccer under new head coach Ivan Juric.

However, the Black Cats have firmly joined the race and believe the lure of the Premier League will tilt the scales firmly in their favor.
