Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni addressed the media following the team’s 2-2 draw against Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. The Italian international expressed disappointment with the result but remained optimistic about the season ahead.
“There’s certainly disappointment because we played a good game,” Bastoni began. “We managed to do the most difficult thing, which was to turn the result around, but then, due to two errors on our part, we had to settle for a draw. We know that playing in Genoa is never easy for us, but we still have 37 league games left.”
When questioned about the unusual number of goals conceded, Bastoni highlighted the challenges of the packed football calendar. “There’s never an end to these closely packed seasons; those who go on international duty have to face both physical and mental efforts. In the first game, you can lose a bit of clarity, but what matters is staying united and compact.”
Addressing Inter’s recent struggles at the Ferraris stadium, Bastoni acknowledged the difficulty of playing there. “These are tough games because the crowd plays an important role here, and Genoa is a tough team with quality players. Even last year, despite an extraordinary season, we came here and drew. I don’t know if there’s a precise explanation for this.”
Bastoni also touched on the team’s preparation for the new season, emphasizing the demanding schedule. “Obviously, we have to adapt to an increasingly tight calendar, and twenty days of break certainly can’t be considered a real vacation. Mentally managing so many games is complicated, especially with a calendar that seems never-ending. But we’re here to play, and we’ll do our best in every game.”
When asked about young defender Yann Bisseck’s performance, Bastoni offered words of encouragement. “The important thing is that he remains calm. Everyone can make mistakes, so there’s nothing to worry about. It’s curious because Inter conceded very few goals last year, and scoring against us was a feat. But we’re only at the first of thirty-eight games, so we move forward without drama.”
Looking ahead to the next match, Bastoni expressed the team’s eagerness to bounce back. “We have a great desire to reunite with our fans and take to the field with determination after this draw. We conceded two goals due to our own errors, but for the rest, we managed the game well both physically and mentally. We just need to maintain our clarity to best face a long season.”
