In a recent interview with Panorama, former footballer and current Sky commentator Paolo Di Canio discussed the current state of Juventus, particularly focusing on the relationship between coach Massimiliano Allegri and player Federico Chiesa.
Allegri and Chiesa
“Some people really wrote that because they won’t accept reality. Things can change, and I’m ready to say if they improve. But right now, Chiesa has the perfect coach, ultra-offensive, who frees up players in attack, and the club says to let him go because they don’t need him for his characteristics. So we can only think that Allegri is the one who has used him best, exploiting him for counterattacks, far from ruining him. We must be realistic, correct, and honest in our analyses, but it’s difficult because often people cheer for their own ideas, creating skewed communication.”
Time is Needed
“Changing the idea and mentality of the approach to training requires some time. Cambiaso, who has to centralize and play in front of the defense, is not his thing unless Thiago Motta performs a miracle. With Bologna, he took a risk and won, but if he had finished seventh, no one would have said anything.”
On Motta
“I say it now, seeing the characteristics of these players: if Motta can transform them, I’ll be the first to say, ‘What a coach, phenomenal!’ But he is working on his footballing belief without having suitable material. He took a player like Douglas Luiz, who made incredible progress at Aston Villa, but initially, he isn’t an attacking midfielder, and Motta will have to be quick to place the most suitable players in the best positions. Then he can add something different, hoping to start with some victories that are needed to continue working; otherwise, it becomes difficult if you don’t get results.”
