Aleksandar Kolarov is set to be announced as Cristian Chivu’s assistant coach at Inter in the next 48 hours.
The Nerazzurri have already replaced Simone Inzaghi with Chivu as the club’s head coach for next season. In terms of the playing roster, Luis Henrique and Petar Sucic have been transferred in as well.
Kolarov spent the last two years of his playing career with Inter. The former Serbian international was part of the team who won the Serie A title in 2020-21.

Aleksandar Kolarov To Join Inter
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, former defender Aleksandar Kolarov will become Inter’s new assistant coach. It had been widely reported that Giovanni Martusciello would take the role.
However, ‘bureaucratic’ issues hindered that possibility and the Nerazzurri’s search continued. On Monday, ex-player Walter Samuel looked set to join Cristian Chivu at Inter.
Samuel is currently on the coaching staff with the Argentina national side. Head coach Lionel Scaloni rejected the approach and Samuel will remain with the Albiceleste.
Now, there are no obstacles in the way of Kolarov resuming his career at the San Siro. The Serbian was employed as the sporting director at Serie B club Pisa in 2023 but left six weeks into the role.
Kolarov – who also represented Lazio, Man City and Roma in his playing days – worked briefly as Serbia’s Under 21s head coach.
Why Did Simone Inzaghi Quit Inter?
Supporters have already seen a number of changes at Inter in the close-season. Naturally, the most notable is the departure of Simone Inzaghi.
Former Parma head coach Cristian Chivu took over the reins and beat off competition from Patrick Vieira and Cesc Fabregas for the role.
However, why did Inzaghi quit Inter? The Italian boss had been at the helm for four years and enjoyed a number of successes at the San Siro. Most notably winning the Scudetto in 2023-24 and landing the Coppa Italia (2).
Inzaghi also led the Nerazzurri to two Champions League finals. He lost on both occasions but his future was always in doubt owing to interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
Many will argue that interest clouded his judgement towards the end of the 2024-25 season. In April, winning a historic treble was a realistic possibility but failure in the league and cup banished that dream.
The 5-0 drubbing to PSG in the UCL final was the final straw for Inzaghi and Inter. Al-Hilal made him the highest paid head coach in the world just a few days after that defeat so leaving for monetary reasons and trying a new venture are the most likely reasons Inzaghi left.
What Trophies Did Aleksandar Kolarov Win At Inter?
Aleksandar Kolarov only spent the last two years of his career with Inter but he did manage to lift the Scudetto at the end of the 2021-21 season.
He also won the Supercoppa Italiana in the same year. Kolarov also won the Coppa Italiana and Supercoppa Italiana in 2009 whilst playing for Lazio.
The former Serbian star had his most successful period in England with Manchester City. During his time at the Etihad, Kolarov lifted the Premier League title on two occasions as well as two League Cup’s and an FA Cup.
Many US bettors are already using the fastest payout betting sites to wager their bets on Inter and Kolarov to wrestle the Serie A title back from Napoli in 2026. That in itself would be the dream campaign for the 39-year-old.
