Cesc Fabregas Enters Into Talks With Inter As Nerazzurri Target Simone Inzaghi Replacement

Start

Cesc Fabregas has entered into talks with Inter about replacing Simone Inzaghi at the San Siro next season.

The 49-year-old left the Nerazzurri on Tuesday to move to the Saudi Pro League. Inzaghi’s $105million Al-Hilal contract will make him the highest paid manager in world soccer.

The former Lazio head coach spent four years with Inter and won six major trophies. Inzaghi also finished as a UCL finalist on two occasions.

His impressive resume will be a challenge for the new boss to follow. However, Fabregas is considered to be the ideal candidate to take the Nerazzurri forward.

Why Inter Want Cesc Fabregas

Reports from Sky Sport Italia suggest that Inter have already made their approach for Cesc Fabregas. The Nerazzurri favor the 38-year-old who has seen his stock rise dramatically over the last 12 months.

The current Como head coach led the Biancoblu to a respectable 10th position in the rankings after their promotion back to Serie A in 2024.

Como stakeholder Thierry Henry recently admitted it would be a battle to keep Fabregas at the Sinigaglia with Milan and Roma lurking. Both clubs have since employed new head coaches.

Having played under the likes of Arsene Wenger, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, Fabregas certainly has what it takes to go to the very top of club management.

That is something of which Inter is very much aware of and believes he will achieve. Hence why they are making their move now to tempt him to the San Siro.

More notably, Fabregas already has a fine reputation for bringing out the best of young players.  Nico Paz and Maximo Perrone are prime examples.

The hierarchy at Inter wants Fabregas to adopt a similar approach of working with youth and helping them develop into world class stars.

Cesc Fabregas Inter Demands

According to SempreInter, Cesc Fabregas has a number of Inter demands if he were to replace Simone Inzaghi. The first would be to continue his trademark of working with and developing young players.

Something of which the Nerazzurri are already heading towards. Prior to Inzaghi’s departure, 21-year-old Petar Sucic was signed from Dinamo Zagreb with 23-year-old Luis Henrique joining from Marseille.

Not only that, Fabregas would want full control in the club’s overall transfer dealings. He had this freedom at Como and would want it replicated at the San Siro.

Those two demands would ensure Fabregas can help mould the Nerazzurri roster to exactly how he wants it. No outside or upstairs sources would have any influence.

The third and final request would be to install a new formation. Inzaghi preferred a 3-5-2 lineup which employed wingbacks. Which ultimately did work to an extent but Fabregas would change that.

Bringing in young players and adopting a more modernized 4-2-3-1 set up would allow Fabregas’ Inter to play free-flowing, attacking soccer.

Inter Managerial Candidates

Although Cesc Fabregas is the favorite with the best offshore sportsbooks to replace Simone Inzaghi, there are other Inter managerial candidates to consider.

Roberto De Zerbi is a strong contender after his excellent work with English Premier League side Brighton and Ligue 1 club Marseille.

Current Genoa head coach and former Inter player Patrick Vieira is also in the running. The Frenchman played alongside Fabregas at Arsenal in the mid 2000s.

Some reports even consider former head coaches Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. However, the most likely outcome at this time is Fabregas taking over from Simone Inzaghi.
