Mauricio Pochettino Explains Christian Pulisic’s Absence From The USMNT Gold Cup Roster

Start

Christian Pulisic will be absent from the USMNT Gold Cup roster this summer which has been favored by head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine boss explained why the Milan star having the summer off will only benefit the US with the 2026 FIFA World Cup 12 months away.

Pulisic has had a very demanding campaign for the Rossoneri and national side. The attacking midfielder has played over 3,500 minutes for the Diavolo alone.

On top of that, he has clocked up an extra three hours of game time for the Yanks since September. The player omitted himself from the roster which has been given Pochettino’s blessing.

Mauricio Pochettino Explains Christian Pulisic Gold Cup Absence

Many people can say it’s really important for us to be all together for the last time before the World Cup,” Mauricio Pochettino said via ESPN.

We decided the best for him, the best of the team, the best for the national team is the decision that we made.

Sometimes we give too much importance knowing to be together and sometimes the group maybe sometimes doesn’t work in this way or build in this way.

I think it is important to create this challenge. I really believe that to build a team is about staying together, to have time to work, yes, but I think we cannot underestimate the player.”

USMNT Gold Cup Roster

The USMNT Gold Cup roster has a number of notable absentees. Christian Pulisic is arguably the biggest but Milan team-mate Yunus Musah will also have the summer off.

Musah has struggled for game time in recent weeks and the 22-year-old made himself unavailable for unspecified reasons. Antonee Robinson of EPL side Fulham has also withdrawn.

Juventus stars Weston McKennie and Timothy Weah aren’t on the USMNT’s Gold Cup roster owing to their involvement in the Club World Cup.

Christian Pulisic 2024-25 Stats

The Christian Pulisic 2024-25 stats make for very positive viewing. Even though Milan has had a largely unforgettable campaign.

Captain America‘ has produced his highest scoring season to date. Pulisic has 17 goals and 12 assists to his name. That tally could increase on GW38 as the Rossoneri take on basement dwellers Monza.

The best Serie A betting sites make Sergio Conceicao’s men the heavy favorites to record a comfortable victory against the already-relegated Biancorossi.

Christian Pulisic Salary

How much does AC Milan and USMNT star Christian Pulisic earn annually playing in Serie A? Currently, Pulisic pockets $112,042 per week (€97,360).

That equates to a figure of $5,826,022 (€5,062,580) each season playing for the Rossoneri. That is just his flat basic salary without added bonuses.

The 26-year-old is the fifth-highest earner at the San Siro currently. Only Rafael Leao, Tammy Abraham, Alessandro Florenzi and Youssouf Fofana earn more.

Will Christian Pulisic Leave Milan?

Although Christian Pulisic looked set to sign a new AC Milan contract, it appears the USMNT star is mulling over his long-term future at the San Siro.

One of the main reasons for this is the Rossoneri’s failure to secure European soccer in 2025-26. The US midfielder is also keen to see who the club will potentially draft in as their new head coach.

Igli Tare is close to being appointed the new sporting director. If his transfer strategy is in sync with the level of players Pulisic would want to play aside, that may sway his decision to pen new terms.
