Cristhian Mosquera transfer news has seen the Spain starlet linked with a slew of clubs around Europe this summer, as Valencia face a struggle to keep one of LaLiga’s most promising defenders. Inter Milan fall under that bracket, but their pursuit may hinge on whether they secure one of their other chief targets at centre-back.
Inter Milan Battle With Rivals AC Milan For Giovanni Leoni
Inter Milan are going full steam ahead with a more youthful, yet typically penny-pinching approach this transfer window.
Inter enjoyed plenty of success under Simone Inzaghi, who masterminded a Scudetto and two Champions League finals with the highest average age of any squad in both competitions.
However, that cycle always had a limited expiry date, and Inter’s recent performances at the Club World Cup, where new manager Cristian Chivu has placed more faith in youth, is perhaps an indicator of a new forward-thinking approach.
Although the Nerazzurri will be forced to operate with a limited budget, as has been the case in recent windows, one of the club’s priorities is to bring in a new central defender.
Cristian Chivu has been eager for Giovanni Leoni to follow him from Parma, and Inter are working on a deal to make it happen. However, not only do they face stern competition from city rivals AC Milan, but Parma will likely invite a bidding war, which could force a deal beyond Inter’s reach.
Inter are hopeful that a $35 million proposal, along Chivu’s previous relationship with Leoni, would be enough to secure a deal, but the hierarchy are also working in the background to form a contingency plan.
Cristhian Mosquera Viewed as the Perfect Alternative
Although The Athletic’s David Ornstein has this week reported Arsenal have opened talks with Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera.
The Spain U21 international has commanded plenty of attention from around Europe this summer, with RB Leipzig and Aston Villa also said to be in advanced talks at various points in the window.

Inter face stiff competition if they are to turn their attention to Mosquera, who will almost certainly depart this window, with his contract in Valencia running out next season.
Having enjoyed a stellar tournament at the U21 Euros, Mosquera’s stock has increased immensely following on from an eye-catching domestic campaign.
Currently valued at $35 million, the 20-year-old will likely command a fee similar to that of Leoni’s.
The best betting apps put Arsenal in pole position for his signature, but Inter’s interest is expected to move quickly.
