AC Milan are battling to sign Serie A top scorer Mateo Retegui, but face serious competition from Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadisiyah.
According to Sky Italia, the newly promoted Saudi club is ready to submit a €60 million bid for the Atalanta striker – €20m more than Milan is currently willing to offer.
Retegui, who scored 25 goals in Serie A last season, finished as Capocannoniere and was instrumental in Atalanta’s third-place finish.
Despite his success, reports from Calciomercato.com confirm that while Retegui is not officially for sale, Atalanta are open to a transfer if the right offer comes in.
Retegui Price Tag
AC Milan, under new head coach Massimiliano Allegri, has made Retegui their top attacking target this summer.
However, Atalanta’s €60 million valuation is a major stumbling block. The Rossoneri are currently only prepared to go as high as €40 million.
Atalanta is playing their cards carefully. While manager Ivan Juric sees Retegui as a key part of his squad, having Gianluca Scamacca at his disposal could give the club more flexibility to cash in on the Argentine-Italian forward.
AC Milan Transfer Plans
With Tammy Abraham heading to Besiktas and Luka Jovic leaving as a free agent, Milan’s attacking options are limited.
Santiago Gimenez remains the only senior striker, and sporting director Igli Tare has been clear in his desire to sign a Giroud-style No. 9 to complement the squad.
Milan has already secured Luka Modric on a free transfer and is close to completing a deal for Samuele Ricci from Torino, while talks are ongoing with Club Brugge for midfielder Ardon Jashari.
Now, the focus is all on bringing in a reliable goalscorer – and Retegui leads that list.
Allegri wants the squad close to complete before the start of pre-season training on Monday, and Retegui’s decision could shape Milan’s final market moves.
Will Retegui Choose Milan or the Saudi Millions?
For Retegui, the next step will be crucial. Still just 26, he has quickly become one of the most coveted strikers in Europe after just one real standout season in Italy.
Milan cannot offer Champions League football next season, or any European football for that matter, and Al-Qadisiyah’s big-money offer could prove hard to resist.
Retegui is expected to evaluate both options in the coming days. While Atalanta waits for formal offers, Milan’s negotiating position is becoming increasingly delicate.
