Italian FA Approves Milan Vs Como Taking Place In Perth Next Year

Start

The Milan vs Como fixture has moved a step closer to being played in Perth, Australia, in February 2026.

On Thursday, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) approved the idea after plans were initially floated in June. The FIGC gave the proposal the thumbs up which would be a historic move in terms of European soccer.

It will potentially be the very first league fixture played outside of Italy. Furthermore, it would be the first game with points up for grabs played outside of the continent.

Why Is The Milan Vs Como Fixture Set To Be Hosted In Perth?

The reason for the Milan vs Como Serie A fixture being played in Perth is owing to the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Rossoneri’s San Siro Stadium will host both the opening Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies.

During pre-season, it’s common practice to see some of Europe’s biggest teams play in the likes of Asia and America. Including Max Allegri’s side as well as the likes of Inter, Juventus and Napoli.

History is set to be made in Perth when Allegri’s men take on Cesc Fabregas’ Como troops in February with vital points up for grabs. Last season, the Biancoblu finished just two places below the Diavolo in the Serie A rankings.

The FIGC Statement On Milan Vs Como

The federal council gave a positive opinion to the Lega Serie A request to play Milan-Como in Perth,” the FIGC said in a statement. “This brings closer what would be a historic trip abroad for a Serie A match.”

The FIGC cautioned that the “complex authorisation procedure” still requires formal approval from a number of governing bodies. Football Australia, UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and FIFA all have to approve the fixture relocation.

At this stage, the general feeling is that the governing bodies will all approve the fixture being hosted in Perth. The Optus Stadium is the likely destination for the Italian top-flight clash on the w/e of February 7/8.

Milan Will Face Perth Glory In Pre-Season

Interestingly, Milan will take on Perth Glory in a pre-season fixture this summer. The game is pencilled in for July 31 and will take place at HBK Park.

Last summer, the Rossoneri faced league rivals Roma at the Optus Stadium and have developed a strong relationship with Glory and the state government.

The success of that friendly has certainly acted as a springboard for the Diavolo to meet Como in the Serie A fixture next February.

Ahead of this summer’s pre-season fixtures, US bettors using the best offshore sportsbooks can find all the latest markets and odds.

Milan also have games against Arsenal and Liverpool scheduled. Como will host the Como Cup from July 23-27 with Ajax, Celtic and Al-Hilal all participating.
