Lazio Target Three Defenders Who Could Replace Nuno Tavares

Start

The latest Nuno Tavares transfer news has revealed that Lazio has identified three potential replacements for the Portuguese star.

Tavares starred at the Stadio Olimpico whilst on loan to the Biancocelesti from English Premier League side Arsenal. The left-back registered five Serie A assists in his first five appearances for the club and eight overall for the season.

The 25-year-old also kept six clean sheets from his 30 appearances. Tavares struggled with injuries in the second half and was unable to add anymore goal contributions to his tally.

Nuno Tavares Transfer News

If the latest Nuno Tavares transfer news is to be believed, the highly-rated left-back could already be on his way out of the Stadio Olimpico.

After a successful loan spell, Lazio exercised the obligation to buy him from Arsenal this summer but new head coach Maurizio Sarri is already looking at moving Tavares on.

The Biancocelesti will demand a sizable fee for the player who has been capped once by Portugal. It was reported on Sunday that an unnamed Saudi Pro League club had a €25m plus bonuses and €5m in add-ons bid rejected.

With the above in mind, Sarri will likely only accept bids in and around the region of €40m. Especially as the Gunners have a reported 40% sell on clause.

Meanwhile, Lazio have opened talks with Barcelona for midfielder Pablo Torre. The Spaniard would be Sarri’s first arrival since re-joining the club.

Is Ben Chilwell Moving To Lazio?

Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell is one name that has been linked with replacing Nuno Tavares. The England international has fallen out of favor at Stamford Bridge and spent the second half of last season on loan at Crystal Palace.

Chilwell was part of the roster that won the 2024-25 FA Cup although he did not feature in the 1-0 final victory against Man City. Nonetheless, Maurizio Sarri is still a big admirer of the left-back.

Sarri tried to sign Chilwell from Leicester whilst he was in charge of the Blues in the 2018-19 campaign. A year later, Frank Lampard got the deal done and signed Chilwell on a five-year contract. His deal expires at the end of the month.

Emerson Palmieri On Lazio’s Radar

Italian international and Euro 2020 winner Emerson Palmieri is another player being considered as a Nuno Tavares replacement at the Stadio Olimpico.

Palmieri actually played under Maurizio Sarri in the 2018-19 campaign and still holds a positive relationship with the 66-year-old Lazio head coach.

Now at West Ham, Palmieri has just 12 months to run on his current deal. The Biancocelesti could test the Hammers resolve with a bid this summer.

Aaron Martin Considered For Lazio Switch

Aaron Martin is also being considered for a switch to Lazio this summer. The 28-year-old currently represents Serie A outfit Genoa. Similar to Palmieri, his contract also runs out next summer.

Martin has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League so the Biancocelesti will need to move quickly. The Spaniard has played in Italy for the last two seasons after joining from Mainz 05.
