Police have been forced to intervene in the sale of Lecce vs Napoli tickets, after visiting fans purchased hundreds of tickets reserved for the home end.
Police Cancel Hundreds of Lecce vs Napoli Tickets
Napoli continue their unrelenting bid for a fourth Serie A title on Saturday evening, when they travel to Apulia to face relegation-threatened Lecce.
Gil Azzurri are expected to take another decisive step towards the Scudetto this weekend, and fond memories of a four-goal thrashing in this exact fixture last season have fans already throwing a tentative fist-pump in the air.
The tantalising prospect of a title run-in has, of course, energised an already fervent fanbase, who appear to be pulling out all the stops in order to witness their own slice of history.
Such is the hysteria around Napoli’s title charge that supporters are taking drastic measures to attend the game, with as many as 5,000 thought to be making the 400km trip across southern Italy, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
However, police in Lecce have released a statement detailing the purchase of hundreds of tickets by Napoli fans, which have now been cancelled after being in violation of “provisions issued by the National Observatory on Sports Events”.
The press release reads: “In reference to the Lecce-Napoli football match scheduled for Saturday, May 3 – we read in the press release released by the Lecce Police Headquarters – (…) the procedures for the cancellation of hundreds of tickets purchased by citizens residing in the Campania Region in sectors other than the guest sector have been activated, in violation of the provisions issued by the National Observatory on Sports Events”.
“Buyers of such tickets are urged not to go to the Lecce Stadium if they do not have a valid title”
Fans residing in Naples and the surrounding area have seemingly attempted to buy tickets reserved for the local people of Lecce, and would therefore be filling up sections meant for home supporters.
Napoli sit three points ahead of fellow frontrunners Inter Milan heading into the final four-game stretch, thanks in no small part to a brace from Scott McTominay — or ‘McFratm‘ as he is affectionally known — last time out.
