Milan star Rafael Leao has been urged to quit the San Siro to join Bayern Munich this summer.
Former Ballon d’Or winner and Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus insisted the Bundesliga giants should sign Leao to benefit striker Harry Kane.
Mattheus said he would welcome the signing of the Rossoneri attacker. Leao can play either on the left wing or as a forward.
Lothar Matthaus On Rafael Leao
“I believe FC Bayern needs a breath of fresh air in this position [left wing]. Rafael Leão would be a good solution,” Lothar Matthaus told Sky Sport DE.
“The Portuguese international mostly played on the left wing for Milan, but he can also play as a center forward, which would be important, as Bayern needs a backup for Kane when he needs a break.”

How Much Would Rafael Leao Cost?
In April, Milan star Rafael Leao was identified as a potential Vini Jr replacement at Real Madrid. However, that was only if the Brazilian moved to the Saudi Pro League.
A fee wasn’t mentioned at the time but it’s likely that Leao would cost in the region of €100million. A figure of which would potentially deter Bayern Munich.
According to Transfermarkt, Leao is valued at €75m so a fee north of €100m would at least have Milan mulling over their options.
Do Milan Need To Sell Rafael Leao?
In theory, Milan doesn’t technically need to sell Rafael Leao. However, supporters who track the best Serie A betting sites transfer markets can’t rule it out.
The main reason being is the Rossoneri’s failure to qualify for European soccer in 2025-26. Funds are already tight at the San Siro and new sporting director Igli Tare may sanction a move to raise cash to boost the roster for next year.
Leao still has three years on his contract so the ball is certainly in the Diavolo’s favor when it comes to negotiations. The Portuguese international hasn’t indicated he is unhappy at the club but a transfer away can’t be fully dismissed.
Rafael Leao Salary
The Rafael Leao salary at Milan sees him bank the most money out of the entire Rossoneri roster. According to Capology, Leao is paid €123,269 on a weekly basis minus bonuses.
Annually, Leao earns €6,410,000 which is actually relatively modest compared to what other star players across Europe earn. Nonetheless, the 25-year-old would likely demand a hefty pay increase if he was to quit Milan.
Interestingly, Bayern Munich has 11 first team players who all earn more than double what Leao currently pockets. Even if a move was negotiated, the Bundesliga champions wouldn’t have any difficulties in meeting Leao’s demands.
Rafael Leao 2024-25 Stats
The Rafael Leao stats for 2024-25 were slightly underwhelming for a player of his talents. Especially in terms of goals across all soccer competitions.
Last season, Leao found the back of the net eight times in Serie A and 12 times overall. However, the number of assists he provided were much better.
In total, Leao can boast 13 assists with ten of those coming in Italy’s elite division. With that in mind, he would make an ideal addition to Bayern Munich who already has the likes of Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala on their roster.
