Juventus have set their asking price for Douglas Luiz as the Brazilian has attracted interest from Atletico Madrid and a host of elite sides around Europe.
Why Are Juventus Selling Douglas Luiz?
The Brazilian midfielder made his way to Juventus in July 2024 for around $53.5 million after an impressive spell in the Premier League with Aston Villa.
Many expected the former Manchester City star to take Juve to the next level and help the Old Lady end their four-year wait for another Serie A title triumph.
However, his opening season in Turin failed to live up to expectation, as the 27-year-old played just 832 minutes across all competitions and under 520 in Serie A.
This lack of playing time was largely down to the Brazilian’s issues with injury throughout the season, missing 13 league games with a variety of knocks.
However, even when Luiz was fit and in the matchday squad, he only started three games in the league and completed 90 minutes of action on just two occasions.
Igor Tudor, who was appointed for Juventus’ final nine matches in the league, did not start Luiz once in the league and the former Villa player saw just 37 minutes of action in Serie A during this time.
The Croatian coach was handed the job in Turin on a permanent basis, after coming in when Juve were huge outsiders to qualify for the Champions League on Serie A betting sites and turning things around with just one loss in nine league matches.
Tudor does not appear to be keen on using Luiz on a regular basis, which means the Brazilian international is set to find a new club this summer.
According to multiple reports, the Old Lady are willing to consider any bids in the region of $40m, as Luiz has four-years remaining on his current deal.
Are Atletico Madrid Interested In Douglas Luiz?
Since the news broke that Juventus are looking to sell their 2024 summer signing, multiple clubs across Europe have looked into the possibility of landing his signature this summer.
A return to the Premier League has caught the most traction, with Manchester United, Leeds and Aston Villa all being mentioned among the interested parties.
Ruben Amorim will be looking to bolster his squad this summer after a disappointing campaign last year and the Red Devils are not the strongest in the midfield region.
Christian Eriksen left Old Trafford as his deal came to end, while Casemiro is entering the final stages of his soccer career and Manuel Ugarte failed to impress after signing from PSG in August last year.
Aston Villa could go back in for their former star with Unai Emery being a big fan of the Brazilian and Leeds have weighed up the possibility after earning promotion last season.
Another side that could be on the hunt for a midfielder this summer is Atletico Madrid, as Rodrigo De Paul has been linked with a move to both Inter and AC Milan.
Diego Simeone’s side finished third in La Liga and were never really in any sort of title race with the two giants: Barcelona and Real Madrid. Meaning a host of summer additions could be necessary.
No bid has been made by the Spanish side, however, if De Paul does leave the capital this summer then Atletico will need to plug that hole in the centre of midfield.
