Will Federico Chiesa Return To Italy? Five Serie A Sides That May Target Former Juventus Star

Start

Federico Chiesa could complete a return transfer to the Serie A after one season with Liverpool – but who should be in for the former Juventus star?

Will Juventus Re-Sign Federico Chiesa?

In the 2024 summer transfer window, Federico Chiesa left Juventus to join Premier League giants, Liverpool, for around $15 million and completed his first move away from Italy.

However, despite Liverpool’s title victory, Chiesa struggled to make his mark on Arne Slot’s side and made just six league appearances – starting only once.

Injuries continued to impact the Italian’s season and it is now hard to see anyway for the 27-year-old to break into Liverpool’s attacking lineup with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo all sitting higher in the pecking order.

Alongside this, Liverpool are edging close to completing the biggest transfer in club history, as Florian Wirtz is set to leave Bayer Leverkusen and play at Anfield next season.

This means that Chiesa could be on his way out of Merseyside in the upcoming transfer window and reports suggest a return to Italy is the most likely outcome.

A move back to his home nation could also mark another return, with Juventus being one of the names in the hat to land Chiesa’s signature this summer.

Chiesa made 131 appearances for The Old Lady, contributing to 55 goals (32G + 23A) and winning the Coppa Italia twice and the Supercoppa Italiana.

Juve endured a difficult 2024/25 season, finishing fourth in the league and exiting the Champions League during the round of 16 – losing to PSV across both legs.

One of Juventus’ main issues was their lack of killer instinct in front of goal, scoring just 58 goals in 38 Serie A matches – meaning Chiesa may be identified to bolster the attacking roster.

Could AC Milan Complete Federico Chiesa Transfer?

AC Milan are one of the favorites to sign the Italian on soccer betting sites, with reports suggesting that Massimiliano Allegri is looking to reunited with his former player at the San Siro.

Sergio Conceicao was relieved of his duties after just one season in Milan, with the seven-time Champions League winners finishing eighth and exiting the UCL RO16.

Rafael Leao has also been linked with a possible move away from the San Siro and Chiesa would be a necessary addition if the Portuguese star departs this summer.

Are Any Other Serie A Teams Interested In Chiesa?

Juventus and AC Milan are not the only Italian sides to be interested in Chiesa, as the newly-crowned Serie A champions Napoli are said to be in the running.

Napoli clinched the league title on the last day thanks to an inspired performance from Scott McTominay who went on to twin the league’s Most Valuable Player award.

Now, the side from Naples are looking to bolster their squad in the summer window and reports suggest that Chiesa could be a priority focus in the coming months.

Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, revealed that Chiesa is very fond of Liverpool but would like regular minutes in the season before the 2026 World Cup.

“There is really a great feeling, a great vibe between Chiesa and Liverpool but he needs and he wants to play regular football.

“Why? Because there is the World Cup in one year with the Italian national team and he hopes to be there. So Chiesa wants to play more. He doesn’t want to spend another season basically 90 percent of the time on the bench.

“My understanding is that there is a concrete possibility for Chiesa to leave Liverpool in this summer transfer window. He’s assessing all his options, especially from what I’m told options in Italy. His desire is to return to Serie A, to have one more opportunity in Serie A.”

Chiesa will be looking to feature at the 2026 World Cup and regular minutes would be needed to do so, especially after Luciano Spaletti left his post as Italy boss.
