Matias Soule has opened up about his difficult start as a Roma player and revealed he has no intentions of leaving despite rumors of interest from other clubs.
What Did Matias Soule Say About Roma?
The Argentinian youngster has been deemed one of the brightest prospects in Europe after joining Juventus’ youth set up in 2021 and working his way into the first-team.
Soule was unable to cement a place in Turin, joining Frosinone on loan for the 2023/24 season and contributing to 14 goals in 39 appearances for the Serie A side.
After a successful loan spell, the tricky winger decided to leave Juve on a permanent basis and joined AS Roma for around $30 million – but failed to hit the ground running.
Soule scored just one goal in his opening 13 Serie A appearances, dealing with various injuries along the way, however, the Argentine went on to contributed to nine goals in his final 14 league appearances (4G + 5A).
The 22-year-old opened up about his difficult spell with Roma initially and revealed that he was considering the idea of leaving the club before Claudio Rainier was appointed.
Matias Soule said: “At first I didn’t play much and I thought about leaving, but the coach told me to stay and wait for my opportunity. In fact, I’m happy now.
“It’s really beautiful, the climate is similar to Argentina and football-wise everything is going well right now. During last season, with the arrival of Ranieri, we recovered and became calmer as a team.”
Ranieri took the reins on a temporary basis towards the end of last season and Roma recently appointed Gian Piero Gasperini, who turned down Juventus to take the job in Rome.
Soule will be looking to continue his form at the start of next season, as Gasperini looks to make an instant impact at the Stadio Olimpico and bring Champions League football back to Rome.
Are Any Clubs Interested In Soule?
At 22-years-old, Soule is an extremely attractive option for several clubs across Europe and his performance in the Serie A last season will have caught the eye of multiple clubs.
A host of Premier League sides have reportedly enquired about the Argentinian’s situation in Rome and West Ham were among these sides to show an interest.
Graham Potter struggled during the 2024/25 campaign, as West Ham finished 14th in the Premier League and Mohammed Kudus looks set to leave the club this season.
The Hmmers are one of the favorites to be relegated on the best betting apps and will need to add some start talent this summer to avoid that fate.
Teams across Italy will also be looking closely at Soule, but Juventus’ focus will be on any departure as the Turin-based side hold a 10% sell-on clause.
