OFFICIAL: Fabio Cannavaro leaves Udinese

Start

Despite securing Udinese’s safety on the final day of the season, Fabio Cannavaro, will not continue his collaboration with the club next season.  Cannavaro announced the news himself in a post on his Instagram profile:

The Announcement

“President Pozzo informed me today of the club’s decision not to continue our professional relationship. I thank him for the opportunity given to me, and I regret not being able to continue this brief but intense journey that in the last month and a half of the championship led us to achieve a great and exciting feat. I want to clarify that I had the desire to continue this adventure in Friuli, a land that has entered my heart along with its people, and for this reason, I made myself unconditionally available to the club. I wish the club, the players, and the wonderful Udinese fans the best success.”

The Reasons

The decision by the Friulian club was based on doubts about the feasibility of continuing in Serie A with Cannavaro. These doubts arose after two weeks of reflection by the club’s ownership following a complicated season, leading to an inevitable separation.

The Future

With Fabio Cannavaro now definitively departed – the man who secured their survival – Udinese must decide on the future of their coaching position. President Pozzo is exploring all options, but as things stand, the top candidates are Vincenzo Vivarini, who had a remarkable season in Serie B with Catanzaro, finishing in the playoffs, and Eusebio Di Francesco, whose contract with Frosinone will expire on June 30, following their relegation (ironically, at the hands of Udinese). A decision is awaited to plan for the upcoming season.
