OFFICIAL: Tonali handed 10-month ban

FIFA have granted the FIGC’s request for Sandro Tonali’s 10-month to be extended worldwide, effectively ending his season. The ban was confirmed yesterday by Italian football federations president, Gabriele Gravina, however it only applied to Italy.

FIFA have now ratified the suspension, meaning it applies to the Premier League effect of immediately.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe had suggested earlier today that Tonali would be in the squad for their trip to Wolves at the weekend.

Today’s news effectively ends the youngsters 2023-24 season, with the Azzurri midfielder expected to return shortly after the end of the EURO 2024 competition next summer.

Tonali admitted to placing bets on Milan and other football teams via an illegal betting app, along with Juve’s Nicolo Fagioli. Aston Villa winger Nicolo Zaniolo is also thought to be involved in betting activity but maintains that he has only bet on card games.
