Panathinaikos pushing for Inter’s Joaquin Correa

Start

Inter Milan’s decision to exclude Joaquin Correa from their UEFA Champions League squad list has opened the door for potential transfer opportunities. Greek club Panathinaikos has emerged as a serious contender for the Argentine forward’s signature, with reports suggesting negotiations are at an advanced stage.

Calciomercato report how Correa’s omission from Inter’s European squad came as a surprise, especially considering manager Simone Inzaghi’s previous insistence on having five attackers available for all competitions. This development has created new scenarios in the transfer market, with clubs from leagues where the window remains open showing interest in the player.

According to sources in Greece, Panathinaikos has made a concrete move for Correa. The club, managed by Diego Alonso, sees the Inter forward as a key target to bolster their attacking options. Panathinaikos is seeking an experienced player who can operate across the front line, and Correa fits this profile perfectly.

However, there are still hurdles to overcome before a deal can be finalized. Firstly, Panathinaikos needs to offload Andraz Sporar, their 30-year-old Slovenian striker. Without Sporar’s departure, the Greek club may struggle to finance the move due to limited financial capabilities.

Secondly, Inter Milan are reportedly seeking a fee of at least €8 million to avoid making a loss on their books. Any offer below this amount is unlikely to be considered. Additionally, Panathinaikos would need to cover Correa’s entire salary to make the deal attractive for Inter.

The two clubs are currently in negotiations, trying to find the right arrangement to make this transfer happen. It’s worth noting that Panathinaikos has an alternative option in Chuba Akpom, the 28-year-old English striker who impressed in the Greek league with PAOK.

If a deal cannot be reached, Correa may find himself in a difficult position at Inter, technically available for Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa matches, but effectively sidelined from the club’s European ambitions. With only a week left before the Greek transfer window closes, time is of the essence for all parties involved.
