Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini heralded the impact of Daniele De Rossi, following their 1-0 win over Sassuolo. The victory puts the Giallorossi firmly in contention for a top four finish, having lost just one Serie A match since De Rossi’s arrival. Speaking with Sky Sport Italia, Pellegrini explained the impact the new coach has had since arriving in Rome:
“I think it’s fair for a team that wants to be up there,” stated Pellegrini. “Losing, drawing, and winning are three different things. Today, we had to win at all costs. It was important not to lose in Florence. Today, we did our part, and these three points are very important.”
When asked about his embrace with former teammate and current Fiorentina coach, Daniele De Rossi, Pellegrini revealed the deep respect he holds for him. “There’s a lot of respect, you know,” Pellegrini shared. “Daniele has always been a reference point for me. I’ve been fortunate to experience him both as a teammate and now as a coach. I think it’s right for me to enjoy him, and for him to enjoy me.”
Pellegrini also reflected on his recent improvement in performance, highlighting his importance in the midfield role. “Also because this Pellegrini changes games,” he admitted. “I believe it’s about always being at the center of the game. In the midfield, I need to feel free. That’s the truth, it’s what I’ve missed in the last year and a half, and I’m happy to have found it again for myself, for Roma, for my teammates.”
Regarding the upcoming Europa League fixture against Milan, Pellegrini acknowledged the strength of their opponents but emphasized Roma’s readiness for the challenge. “We know that at this stage, all the teams are strong,” he acknowledged. “These were the teams here. We will prepare the match as best as we can to try to advance to the next round, even though Milan is a very strong team. But we also need to have this awareness.”
