Roma’s Interest in Chiesa still alive: A potential swap deal with Juventus

Start

Federico Chiesa’s future remains uncertain as the Italian winger finds himself out of Juventus’ plans and in search of a new team. Roma, who were frontrunners for his signature in June, are still in the picture despite Chiesa’s initial hesitation.

The situation has evolved since then, with Roma’s interest cooling slightly after Chiesa’s reluctance and their subsequent pursuit of Soulé. However, the door remains open for a potential move. Roma’s manager, Daniele De Rossi, is known to be a big admirer of Chiesa and had even reached out to the player before the European Championships.

Calciomercato report that while Chiesa’s agent is currently in Rome, potentially to discuss other clients like Pubill, any formal meetings with Roma are on hold as the club’s directors are in England with the team. Inter, Napoli, and Lazio are also monitoring Chiesa’s situation, though a move abroad seems unlikely at this point.

Roma sees Chiesa as a potential market opportunity, especially now that his price tag has significantly dropped from Juventus’ initial €40 million valuation. The Giallorossi are evaluating various options for the attacking winger position, with Wesley and Nusa also on their radar, but Chiesa could still be a contender.

A deal could potentially be struck for around €15-20 million, or by including a player exchange. Juventus’ new coach, Thiago Motta, is reportedly interested in El Shaarawy, although rumors of Cristante’s involvement have been dismissed.

The main hurdle remains Chiesa’s salary, as he currently earns €5 million net per year plus bonuses. This could be a stumbling block for Roma, who are pursuing a policy of reducing player wages.

While the trail has cooled since June, the Friedkin ownership is known for their penchant for cinematic transfers. If Chiesa shows a strong willingness to join, the situation could quickly change. For now, Roma’s interest in Chiesa remains alive, albeit on a back burner, as they continue to explore their options in the transfer market.
