Marco Verratti to sign for Al-Arabi

Start

Italian midfielder Marco Verratti is a step away from completing a transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Qatari side Al-Arabi. The 30-year-old has been with the Parisians for over a decade, having joined them from Pescara back in 2011.

Sky Sport Italia, La Gazzetta dello Sport and Fabrizio Romano report that Verratti is expected in Doha today to complete his transfer, having refused a call up from the national team in order to complete the move.

The move is expected to net Verratti close to €35 million a season, while PSG will earn €50 million from the transfer. The Italian international was linked with the likes of Al-Ahli and Al-Hilal, but reports suggest that PSG’s Qatari management preferred not to send him to Saudi Arabia, given the tensions between the two nations.

Verratti made 416 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions, scoring 11 goals in 11 seasons, lifting the French league champions trophy nine times.
