La Repubblica report today that Cardinale avoided coming to the clubs Milanello training ground yesterday and also skipped the farewell for striker Zlatan Ibrahimović who is retiring from football.
The report outlines the conflict that led up to the brief 35 minute meeting between Cardinale, Maldini and Massara, with the directors wanting a higher budget to work with this summer, while Cardinale is looking to work within a budget.
Cardinale reportedly gave the pair €50 million for the transfer window, but Maldini and Massara wanted more funds in order to make Milan competitive with the other elite European sides.
The decision to axe the duo has reportedly been met with shock and frustration by some Milan players, with Theo Hernandez reportedly prepared to leave the club this summer.
Meanwhile, Rafael Leao is reportedly ‘perplexed’ over the decision and would not have signed his recent contract extension, had he known this would happen.
