Premier League club Newcastle United have made a bid in the region of €50million for Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali. The Magpies have already tried to sign Inter’s Nicolo Barella this summer, but they offer was rejected, leading them to turn to Tonali.
The Athletic and Sportitalia report that Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is seeking reinforcements in midfielder after securing Champions League football next season and has targeted Tonali, who is also attracting interest from Chelsea.
The Athletic claim that Newcastle hope to sign at least two midfielders this summer: a defensive and a more versatile option — with a wide forward, a centre-back and a full-back also sought.
Howe is reportedly planning to push Bruno Guimaraes higher up the pitch, and Tonali’s tactical flexibility appeals.
Tonali made 48 appearances for the club in all competitions last season, helping Milan to finsh fourth, as well as reaching the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2007.
