Premier League club Chelsea are reportedly open to the idea of letting Romelu Lukaku leave on loan, with both Juve and Roma interested in the striker. The Belgian had been poised to return to Inter after a semi-successful loan spell, but it was later revealed that the 30-year-old had also been in talks with the Bianconeri, prompting the Nerazzurri to withdraw from talks.
The Athletic now report that Chelsea and Lukaku have decided to ‘entertain a temporary move away from Stamford Bridge if a permanent exit cannot be agreed,’, writing:
While the west London club and 30-year-old striker have been working all summer to secure a sale, they are now also open to him leaving on loan — provided it includes an obligation to buy or is a straight loan that includes a meaningful fee.
Juventus, Roma and teams in the Saudi Pro League have enquired, with the latter more focused on a purchase.
Chelsea and head coach Mauricio Pochettino are said to respect Lukaku and have a good relationship with the Belgium international, but all sides accept that a departure — rather than reintegration — is the best way forward.
