World Cup winner Fabio Grosso is set to take over at Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais following the sacking of Laurent Blanc. The 45-year-old last coached Serie A club Frosinone, securing their promotion to the top flight in 2022-23 before his contract expired and he was replaced by Eusebio Di Francesco.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report today that Grosso is very close to being appointed Lyon boss, with an official announcement expected in the next few days.
Grosso’s international teammate Rino Gattuso was also in contention for the position, but La Stampa and TuttoSport report that Grosso overtook him in the race, pointing to his experience of having played at Lyon from 2007 to 2010.
Gazzetta suggest that Grosso is expected in France tomorrow to attend Lyon’s match against Le Havre before signing his contract on Monday.
